Lions raise hundreds for cancer patients
by Tom Lawrence

A hard-working charity organisation has been thanked for its sterling fundraising work.
Kingsbury Lions Club collected thousands of pounds for good causes last year and is hoping to have a successful 2008.
The group, which has 32 members in the area, has already donated more than £600 for new equipment at the Piam Brown Children's ward, in Southampton University Hospital.
Treasurer Paresh Kotecha, said: "We don't believe in just handing over cash to good causes and would rather give them something they benefit from."
The ward treats children with leukemia and the money was put towards a new Pulse Oximeter, which measures blood saturation levels and pulse rates.
Kingsbury Lion Club's next fundraiser will be a black tie casino gala night in aid of the China earthquake appeal.
It will take place on August 9, at The Hilton Hotel, in Elton Way, Watford, and tickets cost £35.
A raffle will be held with prizes including a trip to Florida and there will also be an award for the best dressed couple.
