Bar wins extended opening times

A bar in Kenton is now allowed to sell alcohol for longer hours and have dancing and live music on the premises.

The Cubix Lounge, in Kenton Lane, can also show films, thanks to a decision at a Harrow Council meeting on Tuesday.

The bar will be able to sell alcohol until 12.30 on Monday, 1am on Fridays and until 1.30am on Saturday and Sunday. From Tuesday to Thursday the hours will remain unchanged.

The Cubix Lounge's previous licence meant alcohol could only be sold between 10am-midnight from Monday to Sunday.

However the new licence was granted with 33 conditions, including that after 11pm all drinkers use plastic glasses, and all doors and windows be kept closed during evening entertainment.

The owner also has to have a dedicated phone line for residents to call if they want to complain about the venue.

Dave Weiland, from Harrow Council's Community Safety Services, objected to the licence before the hearing.

He said: "The applicant has failed to provide adequate information as to how public nuisance is to be prevented with regard to noise from music and vocals both internally and externally in the courtyard area as well as from people and other noisy activities from inside and outside the premises."

Yogendrasingh Dattani, of Kenton Lane, does not believe the area needs another late-night bar.

He said: "I would have said no to any of the requests.

"We have had problems, especially around Christmas and in my experience it is hard to police people.

"When you relax the laws, once one person starts, other people will start requesting the same thing."

We'd like to hear from you.

I for one am please that this venue has won its fight with the locals/ objectors.

It has got to the point that local business are unable trade. If the residends feel so strongly then they should move to the country side and thus they will have all the peace & Quiet required.
Businesses on the high Street should be able to stay open 24hrs if they so wish!!
